LYN Mattress Event
I need to share a story with y'all about last week's LYN event! It can't wait!
When we first found out we were going to receive the mattresses from Nashville, we decided to work through an agency here in Sikeston that currently works with people in need. That way the beds would definitely get into the homes of people who needed them most. We were planning to receive approximately 125 full and twin mattresses, and we thought the agency would probably come up with about 50 to 60 people who needed them and we would come up with the rest. To our surprise, they quickly had a complete list of names!
When we got to Nashville, our friend who was donating the beds told us the numbers were off and we didn't have the number of twin and full mattresses we first thought. There were more full than expected, and less twin. No worries - we loaded up the truck and headed back, thinking we would just give out what we had.
Fast forward to Saturday! Roughly 20 teams showed up to help deliver! It was an awesome sight! We handed out assignments of where to drop the mattresses, along with whether the home needed twin or full. Each truck then backed up and filled their bed or trailer with what they needed. The trailer was packed tightly, so there was no way to tell how it would come out. We decided to just distribute what we had, and make adjustments when we got toward the end.
At one point, one of our team members said "This is like the loaves and fishes! We keep passing out mattresses and it feels like more appear!" There were two more pickups to fill, and we quickly looked at our tally to make adjustments. But.....there were no adjustments to make. All the orders were filled in the correct size. There were EXACTLY the number of mattresses we needed, in the EXACT sizes requested.
Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps! It's such a great illustration of the goodness of God, and a reminder that this is not our nonprofit, it's all His. We just show up.
